2  Are your services confidential?

Yes. Any matters discussed with the Psychologist remain private and confidential. Information will remain confidential to all parties unless you give written consent to release information.

3  How many appointments will I require?

This depends on the individual's needs and the presenting issue. Some people require only six (or fewer) sessions while others may require more than that. This matter will be discussed with your Psychologist after the first session.

4  How long is each session?

Each session with a Psychologist lasts approximately 50-60 minutes.

5  What is the cost of a session?

6  What is the Medicare rebate?

The Medicare Rebate is obtainable to clients who are referred by their general practitioner (GP). The Medicare rebate makes accessing a Psychologist more affordable by offering a considerable rebate to clients for 12-18 sessions per calendar year.

7  Can I access the Medicare rebate?

You will need to arrange an appointment with your GP to discuss the Mental Health Care Plan. Once you have your care plan simply call our head office in Melbourne on (03) 9351 0722 and make an appointment to see a Psychologist in one of our Melbourne or regional Victorian locations.

8  Are there Private Health Insurance Rebates?

Yes. If you have extras cover you will be able to claim a rebate from your health fund provider. As the rebate varies depending on your level of cover please call your Health Provider for more information.

10  What can I expect from counselling for my child or adolescent?

Our expert Psychologists have a range of techniques they utilise to assist children and adolescents with any issues they may have; such as issues at school, bullying, abuse, mental health issues, conflict with parents and so on. 11  Does New View Psychology write reports?

Yes. A Psychologist at New View Psychology can write reports for court matters, custody matters, Victims of crime, TAC clients, WorkCover matters, schools, doctors, and Centrelink. Please note that we do request pre-payment before a report is released.

12  Do you administer psychological tests for children?

Yes. New View Psychology has senior Psychologists trained in administering psychological tests to children as young as three years of age. Please phone our head office in Melbourne on (03) 9351 0722 to discuss this further.

13  How many sessions can I have if referred under a Mental Health Plan by my GP?

You are entitled to 12 sessions (18 sessions in exceptional circumstances) per calendar year (Jan to Dec). Therefore, if your GP refers you in July and you use all your sessions by November you are entitled to another 12-18 the following January. You DO NOT have to wait 12 months from the date of the referral (i.e. you do not have to wait until the following July to be referred by your GP).*
